What does a Statutory Supervisor do?

Under §38 of the Retirement Villages Act 2003, every registered retirement village in NZ must have an independent Statutory Supervisor — a corporate trustee that holds residents' funds in trust, monitors the operator's compliance with the Code of Practice, and can step in under §43 if there is concern about residents' interests being protected.

If you live in (or are considering) a village supervised by Covenant Trustee Services, you can raise concerns about the operator's conduct directly with them — they are obliged to investigate and report annually to residents.
